Overview
A WordPress 'page' is a type of content that is created on your website. An example of a page on your website may be your 'About Us' page or your 'Contact' page. Even your 'Home' page is considered to be a page in WordPress terminology. The content on these pages may change over time, but they will typically always be visible on your site as they provide the primary content for your website visitors.
A WordPress 'post' is also a type of content that is created on your website. Posts are used to create blog content. Blog posts are organized on your site in reverse chronological order, therefore the most recently published posts are shown first on your primary blog page.
The process detailed below will help you understand how to edit WordPress pages and posts.
Page & Post Editing
To access your Pages or Posts from the Dashboard of your WordPress website, hover over either the 'Pages' or 'Posts' link in the left sidebar. From there, you can either click the 'All Pages' or 'All Posts' link depending on what you'd like to view. In addition, you may also click the 'Pages' or 'Posts' link itself. This action will take you to a screen which shows all Pages or Posts that have been created on your website.
As the website shown in the example above does not contain any Posts, we'll focus on editing content within the About Us page. That being said, the process for editing a Post would follow the same steps.
Backend Editor
To access the backend page editor, hover over the Page name that you would like to edit and click on 'Quick Edit'. You may also click on the Page name itself. The backend page editor contains a lot of information about the content and structure of your Page. For this tutorial, we will just be focusing on how to edit text or images within your Page.
Text
To edit text in the backend page editor you simply click into the content where you'd like to make your edits or highlight a section of text using your cursor. The editor works similarly to a regular document editor on your computer (i.e., Microsoft Word).
Images
To edit an image in the backend page editor, click on an image that's located within the content. This will then provide on option at the top of the editor where you can 'Replace' the image. Click the 'Replace' link.
Once clicked, you're given options on how you'd like to replace your image. We recommend that any images used on your site are housed in your Media Library, therefore click the 'Open Media Library' option. This will open up access to your media library where you can then select which new image you'd like to use on your page. Once you select your new image, click the 'Select' button in the bottom right of the 'Select or Upload Media' screen.
Saving Changes
To save any edits made, click the 'Update' button in the top right corner of the backend page editor. If you'd prefer to not save your changes, then click the site logo in the top left corner of the backend page editor and when prompted about your changes not being saved click the 'Ok' button.
